Isync fetches your email (like from your gmail account) and stores it locally on your computer. Then, any email client that you run on your machine can fetch your mail in a local directory. This makes browsing your email SUPER fast, and possible when you are not connected to the internet! The email client must support Maildir or IMAP4 mailboxes, which is the format that isync saves your mail on your machine. One should really use Maildir's because those seem to be the standard. Though Dovecat has an alternative standard that is also really fast too.
