It would be nice if Devsus supported a standard Linux kernel instead of the ChromiumOS kernel.

Arch Linux ARM has a standard kernel working on the C201 (I confirm that it boots fine). Debian's wiki claims that a standard Debian kernel works with the C201, but I'm unable to reproduce any success there (although my knowledge here is really minimal, so maybe there's an obvious trick to make it work that I'm unaware of).

Mainline kernel boots just fine on the C201, but several people (including me) cannot use an ath9k_htc WiFi dongle due to kernel lockups and sporadic crashes. The mainline branch of Devsus uses longterm kernel 4.9.x and I intend to merge it into master once some mainline kernel works perfectly.

I did encounter the lockup issue you describe with the ath9k_htc WiFi adapter when I tried using the mainline kernel with Arch. I haven't tried that adapter with Devsus. However, I'm having no trouble with the RTL8187B WiFi adapter on a slightly modified version of Devsus's mainline branch.

RTL8187B is less free than ath9k_htc (since ath9k_htc has free CPU-loaded firmware, whereas RTL8187B's firmware is immutable and not loaded by the CPU), so I'm not sure if it meets your standards, but I figured I'd mention it in case you're not aware.

EDIT: It should be noted that both adapters meet FSF's standards for freedom, as FSF considers immutable firmware to not be software. My definition of free software is somewhat more stringent, as I consider mutable free firmware to be more free than immutable firmware.
