  1. SuperTux Levels by octo
  2. =========================
  3. This package contains levels for SuperTux, a 2D jump'n'run game featuring our
  4. beloved penguin mascot, Tux. For more information on SuperTux, please visit the
  5. SuperTux homepage at <http://supertux.lethargik.org/>.
  6. Levels and Setting
  7. ------------------
  8. Currently, there are four sections:
  9. * The “Incubator” levels are designed according to the “Milestone 2 Style
  10. Guidelines.” The goal was to create levels of average difficulty. Levels
  11. that are challenging for novice players and interesting for advanced
  12. players, without being annoying or frustrating.
  13. The levels should be easy to finish, but collecting all the coins can be
  14. challenging. Also, care has been taken that speed-runs are possible and
  15. fun. There are even secret pathways which can save you some time!
  16. * The “Castle” levels are far more challenging. The levels take place at some
  17. unnamed Badguy's castle. Penny is being held captive there and Tux is
  18. trying to rescue her. This section consists of six levels:
  19. - The broken elevator
  20. When Tux tries to enter my domain, he find that the elevator is frozen to
  21. the ground. He has to set out to turn the heating system on …
  22. - The Drawbridge
  23. Tux needs to get into the castle, but it's heavily guarded. This is
  24. probably a hard level.
  25. - The Entrance
  26. Tux is inside the castle, but not quite. To get to Penny he has to get
  27. past the guards in the outer regions of the castle. This level is hard.
  28. - The Throne Room
  29. Finally within the inner regions of the castle, Tux has to discover that
  30. that Badguy is having a new heating system installed and not where he
  31. used to be, so … were could he and Penny be? This level is of medium
  32. difficulty but requires some precise jumping at the beginning. [*]
  33. - The Torture Chamber
  34. If Badguy is not on his throne, he can only be in one of two places. To
  35. the torture chamber! This level is of medium difficulty.
  36. - The Tower
  37. Well, Badguy and Penny weren't in the torture chamber either (*whew!*).
  38. So off to check the second possibility: Badguy's private chambers, way up
  39. in that devious tower of his. This level is of medium difficulty.
  40. The levels were designed to be a challenge for advanced players. They are a
  41. bit mean here and there, but usually the player should be able to avoid
  42. these traps once he knows they're there.
  43. * The “Super Mario Land” levels are remakes of levels from the original
  44. GameBoy game.
  45. - Super Mario Land 1-1
  46. Remake of the first level of the game.
  47. - Super Mario Land 1-2
  48. Remake of the second level of the game.
  49. - Super Mario Land 1-3
  50. Remake of the third level of the game.
  51. * The “Super Mario World” levels are remakes of levels from the original SNES
  52. game.
  53. - Yoshi's Island 2
  54. This is a remake of the original "Yoshi's Island 2" level from "Super
  55. Mario World", the SNES game. Everyone who has played the original game
  56. will know this level from heart, as it is the level to gather some extra
  57. lives.
  58. - Chocolate Island 2
  59. This is a remake of the original "Chocolate Island 2" level from "Super
  60. Mario World", the SNES game. Getting to the secret exit is a bit tricky
  61. but should behave almost identical to the original game.
  62. Overall difficulty
  63. ------------------
  64. The overall difficulty varies greatly, depending mostly on the section you're
  65. in. If you don't manage to complete one of the levels, please do tell me
  66. (rather than sending the mafia to my home ;). Maybe a sign at the right place
  67. will save a lot of other players from frustration, too …
  68. Installation
  69. ------------
  70. To play there levels, copy the to the location where SuperTux expects its
  71. levels. On most systems, the directory “octo” must be below the directory
  72. “<prefix>/share/games/supertux2/levels/”, where “<prefix>” is the path where
  73. you installed SuperTux. Usually that's “/usr” or “/opt”.
  74. Version
  75. -------
  76. These levels were designed for SuperTux 0.3, the development version of the
  77. second “milestone”. All levels were tested with revision 6663 of the SVN
  78. repository and are completable. They were designed with revision 6663 of
  79. SuperTux-Editor and vim 7.2.245. For incompatibilities with future versions,
  80. please contact me (see below).
