#484 cutscenes not working completely

While finishing clorinde's quest. (i haven't tried doing other character quest on my computer yet)

It look like it freezed, but i still see text changing along with the sound effects. Only the characters didn't move.

i'm running the game at ubuntu 22.04, GeForce GT 750M, lutris-7.2-2-x86_64 and pictures will be attached below for other settings.

i also found no similar issue.

I don't know specifically how to solve your problem, but at least try not using the “lutris-7.2-2” wine version. It hasn't been updated from 2022 and I dont think it has Wine-GE patches. Just use wine-ge-8-26. You can also disable fsync, it won't even work on Ubuntu with its kernel.

I've had exactly the same problem for about 1 week.

I've tried all kinds of settings (enabling/disabling fsync, esync ...), I've also changed the wine version but nothing helps. On the other hand, crashes can now happen just about anywhere, whereas at first they were in the cinematics of the new zone.

The problems seem to be linked to the new launcher. I've tried to install ZZZ with this same launcher and the installation never finishes. Worse still, I can't access my disks. The only solution is to reboot the machine.

I'm on Debian 12 with a ryzen 5800X cpu and a rx 6700xt gpu.

Before I went on vacation, no problems (just a few crashes of the new launcher at shutdown) but since I've been back, it's been a disaster.

So far I cannot see any common root cause in those two reports.

  • Linux kernel: 5.15 (Ubuntu) vs 6.1 (Debian 12)
  • Wine version: Wine-7.2-GE-2 vs (unknown)
  • DXVK: (unknown) vs (unknown)
  • Mesa version: (unknown) vs (unknown)
  • CPU: (unknown) vs AMD Zen 3
  • GPU: NVIDIA Kepler ¹ vs AMD RDNA 2.0

Note ¹: This GPU very likely needs DXVK 1.x to function properly due to lack of Vulkan 1.3 support and lack of a supported driver version for DXVK 2.x.

There's a few unknown parameters here which might or might not be the cause of this issue.

Please do check the following sources for error messages that appear(ed) right at the beginning of a cutscene:

  • output_log.txt (see FAQ.md)
  • Wine's stderr (terminal output)
  • dmesg - only relevant in case of GPU driver issues. Might not be needed here.

I believe this is an entirely different issue. If smartctl and fsck do not report any disk-related issues, do make sure that the installer is not run as root.

I try lot of change on my configuration to avoid crash. After long test period, the crash is possible at any moment.

I try:

  • reinstall genshin
  • deactivate Fsync/Esync
  • change dxvk version on lutris (2.1 and 2.4)
  • change kernel from 6.1 to 6.9
  • change motherboard (because I see an issue on ssd reading with my previous motherboard)
  • change wine version (lutris-7.2-2, lutris-GE-proton8-5, lutris-GE-proton8-14, wine-ge-8.26)

In attachment the output_log with error on DXVAVDA but I found no solution for this issue.

@yabb85 Your post does not contain any attachment. Please consider re-uploading it. If uploading does not work, use a separate paste service.

Also make sure that you have enough free RAM and at least a few gigabytes of swap. free -m lists both in MiB.

I use 48Go of RAM on my computer and the game never use all the RAM.

Crashed without any backtrace. This is different to the main reported issue, where cutscenes only resulted in a freeze. This appears to be a duplicate of #467. Please enable a swap partition or swapfile if there's yet no "Swap:" listed in LANG=C free -h.

No matter how much memory you have - program logic issues may cause insane spikes and cause malloc/realloc to fail occasionally when there is no swap to bounce it off.

As the author of the patch at that MR, I really doubt that it will help with this game, because as far as I can tell it does not even use Media Foundation.
